Juventus v GenoaJuventus defeated Genoa 2-0 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Sunday afternoon in Serie A, gaining their first league win of the season.

The Old Lady took the lead through an unlucky own goal by Genoa goalkeeper Eugenio Lamanna before the hosts’ game went from bad to worse as defender Armando Izzo was sent off. The second-half was no different in terms of tension levels in the game as the reigning Italian champions doubled their lead thanks to Paul Pogba penalty.

Excellent strength from Olivier Ntcham meant the hosts had the first opportunity of the match, with his movement leading to a cross from the left hand side but it ended with a Diego Capel header flying just over the bar.

Juventus were the first to draw blood thanks to a very unfortunate own goal from Genoa keeper Lamanna. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time when Paul Pogba’s effort from a few yards out struck the crossbar and rebounded out, but only into the chest of the 26-year-old, who directed it back to goal.

A feisty first-half concluded with the Rossoblu going down to 10-men, after defender Armando Izzo’s tug on Juan Cuadrado gave him his second yellow card of the game.

The second-half had the save levels of tension as the first, with Juventus doubling their lead on the hour mark through a controversial penalty, converted by Pogba following a foul on Giorgio Chiellini.

Bologna began to find their feet properly in the final 15 minutes and Panagiotis Tachtsidis had a shot from the outside of the box, but it travelled too high above Gianluigi Buffon in the Juventus goal.

The visitors held on and claimed their first three points of the season, meaning they now sit in 12th place in the league table while Genoa are in 15th.
