New Bologna signing Emanuele Giaccherini expressed his gratitude to the club for offering him a fresh start after he spent much of his final season with Sunderland injured and he is now determined to do well for the Rossoblu.
The 30-year-old also admitted that it will be difficult for him to return to the Italy side even though he would like to add to his 21 Azzurri appearances.
“After a year out, this is an important opportunity for me,” said Giaccherini to the Corriere di Bologna.
“I need to do very well for myself and for the club, I cannot wait to get back onto the pitch.”
The former Juventus attacking midfielder was reluctant to say too much about a potential return to international football.
“I would like to return to the national team but I will have to give a lot to impress [coach Antonio] Conte,” added Giaccherini.
“But first there is the league season and I have to do well with Bologna.”
