Torino defender Kamil Glik says he never asked to leave the club in the summer and intends to respect his contract with the Granata.

The Poland international was linked with a move away from the Turin side during the transfer window with Napoli, Manchester United, West Ham and Galatasaray all showing interest in the former Piast Gliwice centre-back.

“There were many rumours about my future, but I’m not disappointed I stayed with Torino,” Glik told Sports.if.

“Indeed, I have always been clear, I never expressed an intention to leave.

“After the sale of Matteo Darmian to Manchester United, it was evident that the coach [Giampiero Ventura] did not want to lose two defenders in a short space of time.

“I will respect my contract with Torino, and look forward to a successful season.”

The Granata captain has been in fine form over the past few seasons since joining from Bari in 2011, making 123 appearances, scoring 12 goals in Serie A, and was Europe’s second highest scoring defender last season behind Celtic’s former player Virgil van Dijk.
