Giuseppe Iachini felt that his Palermo side put in a strong first half performance against Carpi but admitted that they needed to play at a higher tempo after the interval.
The Rosanero snatched a fortunate 2-2 draw against Serie A new boys Carpi after throwing away an early lead and avoiding defeat thanks to a last-minute equaliser from Uros Djurdjevic.
“Palermo put in a great first half performance but we were unable to close out the game,” Iachini told Rai Sport.
“We needed to play more quickly after the break, unfortunately we conceded a goal as soon as Carpi started to play well.
“The guys used both their hearts and heads to find the late equaliser.”
He continued: “We will move on with a positive mindset, some mistakes early in the season are to be expected.”
“Our first objective is to avoid relegation, and then we will see [what happens].”
