Italy forward Eder is happy his team have secured an important win following his side’s win over Malta.
The Azzurri defeated Malta 1-0 on Thursday night in their Euro 2016 qualifier which means they now top Group H, one point ahead of Croatia who drew earlier in the day away to Azerbaijan.
“I’m happy that we won, it is an important three points,” Eder told the press after the match.
“Croatia drew, we claimed the top spot and I am happy.”
Despite the victory, Eder admitted that it was a tough match to close out as the opposition defended well.
“It was not an easy game, Malta defended well and it was difficult to score,” he said.
“We had many opportunities to shoot but it is difficult when Malta have eight players behind the ball.”
Italy host Bulgaria in Palermo on Sunday night in their next qualifying fixture.
