Matteo Kovacic - Inter's number 10.Real Madrid’s new midfield signing Mateo Kovacic has claimed that a move from Inter to the Spanish giants was too good to turn down, but is apologetic to Nerazzurri fans for his abrupt departure.

The 21-year-old spent just over two seasons at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza after a transfer from Dinamo Zagreb in January of 2013, and quickly established himself as a key figure, making 80 Serie A appearances for the club before making for pastures anew this season.

“Real Madrid is one of the few teams in the world where you cannot say no,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“In the end we found a solution that made all parties happy. Every player dreams of playing for Real.

“It happened to me at 21 years of age and I consider myself to be very lucky.”

Nevertheless, Kovacic is adamant that his former club will compete for titles in the future and looks forward to re-uniting with his Inter teammates soon.

“I am sorry to leave Milan regardless, I am sure that Inter will have a great season,” said Kovacic.

“I hope to see Inter in the Champions League in twelve months. There is a lot of competition and the path is long, but I hope that Inter will make it.”
