Lazio defeated Genoa 2-0 on Wednesday evening in Serie A at the Stadio Olimpico to bounce back from their 5-0 loss to Napoli in their previous game.

Filip Djordjevic opened the scoring in the first half before Felipe Anderson sealed the victory with a beautiful curling effort in the second half in a game which saw Issa Cissokho and Goran Pandev sent off for Genoa.

Although Lazio started the brighter of the two sides, Genoa almost took an early lead after 5 minutes when Tomas Rincon hit the post with a low drive from outside the penalty area.

It took until the 20th minute for the next shot on target and again it was Rincon with a low shot from distance which this time was saved by Federico Marchetti.

It was the hosts however who ultimately took the lead on 35 minutes through Djordjevic.

A pinpoint cross into the box from the left by Senad Lulic was met by the unmarked Serbian who headed past Eugenio Lamanna to make it 1-0.

The Biancocelesti held their lead and the two sides went in at half-time with the score remaining 1-0.

The Grifone’s night got worse soon after the break when Cissokho received two yellow cards in quick succession and was sent off after 56 minutes.

Lazio then capitalised on their numerical advantage after 62 minutes when Felipe Anderson found space outside the penalty area and curled a wonderful right-footed shot into the top corner to give his side a 2-0 lead.

If that wasn’t bad enough, former Lazio player Pandev became the visitors’ second player to receive a red card after 86 minutes when he was dismissed for a blatant elbow on Mauricio.

The hosts held on for a 2-0 victory to push themselves into 8th position in the table and inflict Genoa’s fourth defeat of the season.
