After a difficult start to their Serie A campaign, Lazio could welcome first-choice goalkeeper Federico Marchetti back into the squad for the visit of Udinese to the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday evening.

The 32-year-old has been unavailable to coach Stefano Pioli after fracturing two ribs shortly before the Champions League play-off with Bayer Leverkusen, but club doctor Stefano Salvatori has confirmed that the Italian is ready to return.

“Marchetti has worked well the last few days and also participated in a friendly yesterday,” Salvatori told Lazio Style Radio.

“On Sunday it will be exactly one month from the time of fracture.

“He has endured some pain early on, but has responded well so we have made him available to the coach from Thursday.”

Last season the former Cagliari number 1 was virtually ever-present under Pioli, making 30 Serie A appearances as the Biancocelesti finished third behind city rivals Roma and champions Juventus.
