Dries Mertens NapoliNapoli forward Dries Mertens has stressed the team is working hard under new coach Maurizio Sarri, following his side’s 5-0 Europe League rout of Belgians Club Brugge.

The result was the Partenopei’s first win of the season, after recording two draws and a loss in the opening three Serie A fixtures, where they currently lie in 14th place in the league standings.

“When you change coach we need a bit of time to perfect the mechanisms and we are working intensely with Sarri to get to the top [of the table],” Mertens said in the post-match press conference.

“We gave 100 per cent as always, but there was a great desire to win in order to boost our season.”

Mertens also believes the positive performance against the Belgian outfit is a sign of things to come domestically.

“I think if we all can express ourselves as we know we can the results and the goals will come,” Mertens explained.

“To be successful it’s just a matter of movement and tonight we saw a Napoli team who won and played well.

“Our 4-3-3 formation worked better tonight and we were threatening in attack.”
