Napoli-Lazio-HiguainNapoli defeated Lazio 5-0 at the Stadio San Paolo on Sunday to achieve their first league win of the season in emphatic style.

The Partenopei went ahead through Gonzalo Higuain and doubled their lead after 34 minutes through new signing Allan. Lorenzo Insigne notched the third shortly after the break with Higuain lashing in his second on the hour mark before Manolo Gabbiadini completed the rout ten minutes from time.

The first significant chance came the way of the Biancocelesti after some great play by Dusan Basta down the right eventually cut the ball back to Keita Balde Diao who should have burst the net with his attempt.

But it was Napoli who took the lead after 13 minutes after Higuain fought off Wesley Hoedt before unleashing a strike into the bottom left-hand corner which left Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti rooted to the spot.

The Neapolitans continued to probe particularly through Jose Callejon and Insigne, but couldn’t create clear enough chances to take the two goal lead they had deserved.

However, in the 34th minute Insigne crafted a delightful through ball to Allan who lifted it over Marchetti to hand the Partenopei a two goal cushion.

It took Napoli just two minutes to extend their lead in the second-half after some poor Lazio defending allowed Higuain to force a good save from Marchetti only for Insigne to score with the rebound.

By this stage the Partenopei were rampant and the fourth goal came just before the hour mark when Higuain drove into the box and lashed his shot across Marchetti’s goal.

Substitute Gabbiadini then slotted in Napoli’s fifth after a great ball from Allan cut through the Lazio defence.

Maurizio Sarri’s first league victory as Napoli coach sees the club rise to 11th in the league, meanwhile Lazio remain in 10th position.
