Napoli-Lazio-HiguainNapoli coach Maurizio Sarri is brimming with enthusiasm following his side’s 5-0 thrashing of Lazio on Sunday – the Azzurri’s first Serie A win of the season.

Sarri took over at Napoli in June of this year following Rafael Benitez’s departure from the club but had made a stuttering start to the campaign.

Lazio found themselves 2-0 down because we started very well, but it must be said that the Biancocelesti played away last Thursday and returned home very late, while were already in bed,” the Italian coach told Radio Kiss Kiss, citing Lazio’s draw against Dnipro in Ukraine.

“That’s the great difficulty of the Europa League, just look at the results that follow such difficult journeys.

“In the first half we did very well in terms of pressure, Higuain’s two goals sealed the result.

“This should be the way we play even if it is exhausting to do it for ninety minutes.”

Speaking about the switch to a  4-3-3 formation that proved so effective for the Partenopei, Sarri was equally enthusiastic.

“In terms of our offensive game,  we only changed the starting positions, but the movement was similar to previous matches.

“Our midfielders have less defensive work to do in this formation and this is definitely a benefit.”

The 56-year-old tactician commended several of his players following a dominant performance against the Biancocelesti.

“Jorginho did very well in a similar role to the one he played at [Hellas] Verona.

“Kalidou [Koulibaly] was perfect for eighty-five minutes and then had five minutes of errors.

“[Elseid Hysaj] can play on either flank, unfortunately in the first few games he was out of condition but he did very well here.”

Napoli face off against newly-promoted Capri on Wednesday, a match that Sarri is wary about.

“This is a dangerous game for us, it’s typical of the kind of matches that Napoli got wrong last year.”
