pasqual - FiorentinaManuel Pasqual believes Fiorentina must learn from their mistakes following Thursday’s 2-1 loss to Basel in Group I of the Europa League.

The Italians led early through Nikola Kalinic, but following a straight red handed to Gonzalo Rodriguez, the Swiss side capitalised and came from behind to earn a well deserved three points.

“Embolo [Breel] is a great player,” Pasqual outlaid to Sky Sport Italia when discussing Rodriguez’s red card.

“He has a superb burst of pace and has good, overall ability,” he added

“Because of him it meant Rodriguez [Gonzalo] saw red.

“Gonzalo went in with every intention to win the ball of course, and you could tell he was furious at himself for sending the team down to ten men.”

The sending off triggered new found belief for the travellers, scoring twice in the final twenty minutes to steal all three points.

“After that sending off they [Basel] had the upper hand.”

“They created more chances thanks to their superiority.

“We fell into trouble.”

The result seemed inevitable in falling in Fiorentina’s favour, having played much better in the first-half, which saw Kalinic open the scoring.

“We had good possession in the first 20-25 minutes.”

“We fought well but their quality and upper hand meant we were punished.

“The sending off meant I came on and we lost our width.

“We must start to learn from the mistakes and get a result against Carpi on Sunday.”
