Roma goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny will be sidelined for the next four to six weeks after suffering an injury during the club’s 1-1 draw in their opening Champions League encounter against Barcelona.

The Poland international was forced to come off in the 50th minute of the game after sustaining an injury to his finger which was inadvertently caused by Luis Suarez as the pair challenged for the ball.

The goalkeeper was subsequently replaced by Morgan De Sanctis as the Giallorossi secured a draw.

While it was initially believed that Szczesny had dislocated his ring finger, according to Sky Sport Italia, medical examinations suggest that custodian tore ligaments  in his finger, and, as such, will face a spell of four to six weeks on the sidelines.

Szczesny arrived on loan from Arsenal this season and has quickly established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper, starting in all of Roma’s games so far.
