Abel Balbo RomaRoma legend Abel Balbo believes that the Giallorossi are ready to be crowned Serie A champions this season following an impressive transfer campaign.

The Argentine striker scored seventy-eight goals in seven seasons for I Lupi during two separate spells in Rome, and was part of the club’s last scudetto winning side in 2000-01.

“I first came to Rome in 1992 and I chose to stay here even after I retired”, the 49-year-old told Roma TV.

“It is difficult to leave this city.”

Turning his attention to the new season, the former Parma and Fiorentina forward spoke of his expectations for Roma and his admiration for Edin Dzeko.

“The first impressions are very positive. We have a strong team that could write a new chapter in the club’s history. I don’t see a stronger team in the league.

“Dzeko is a great champion. He is excellent in the air but also skilful with the ball at his feet. He has made a dream start, scoring his first goal under the Curva Sud while beating Juventus.”

Balbo then went on to warn his old club that they cannot let this season go to waste.

“Nobody expected Juve to have no points after two matches. They are weaker than last season but Roma have strengthened their squad.

“None of the other teams are as good as Roma. We cannot waste this season. With everything in our favour, we must take advantage.”
