Riccardo Saponara AC MilanEmpoli’s Riccardo Saponara still looks back with regret at how things turned out during his time with AC Milan as he struggled to ever break into the first team.

Saponara found his playing time severely limited with the Rossoneri and opted for a move back to the Azzurri in January, becoming a key figure in helping the side avoid relegation. The player has also revealed that he turned down the chance of joining Napoli.

“There are regrets about how things turned out at Milan,” Saponara told Radio Deejay.

“But it is hard to make an impact when you barely play and I struggled to settle.

“[I turned down Napoli] as I chose to have another season as a regular starter, but if an irrefutable offer had come in, I would have taken it into consideration.”

The 23-year-old also admitted that his former coach, Maurizio Sarri, will need some time to change the Partenopei’s strategy to his preferred style.

“He will need some time, his work methods are different and the results will be on his shoulders,” Saponara concluded.
