However, it was the Cavallucci Marini who made the stronger start, taking the lead through forward Antonino Ragusa. The Italian ghosted into the box and beat the defender to head home.

But the Diavoli Neri were able to get back into the game when Emmanuel Cascione was sent-off for bringing an Entella forward down in the box. Francesco Caputo stepped up to the take the penalty, but his effort was tame and hit straight at keeper Alfred Gomis.

Eventually, the Biancocelesti turned the screw and found the equaliser. After hitting the bar through a header, the ball fell to the feet Alessio Sestu who tapped the ball in the net.

Five minutes after the break Virtus Entella got the winning goal through Caputo. From a corner Simone Sini headed towards the goal but his shot was tipped on to the post which again rebounded to the predatory Caputo who pounced.

Cesena were under pressure for the rest of the game and failed to find a way back into the match.

Avellino bounced back from their embarrassing opening day defeat to Salernitana with a win at home to Modena. The first-half ended goalless, but the Lupi were lucky to go into the break without conceding with Modena wasting several key chances.

The Canarini continued from where they had left off in the opening 45 but couldn’t find a way past the imperious Pierluigi Fractals in goal. The deadlock was eventually broken in the 77th minute through substitute William Jidayi. The former Sassuolo man bundled his way past his marker to force a header home.

Seven minutes later the three points were sealed through Benjamin Mokulu who, following a stunning first touch, tucked the ball away after he had been played in with a sumptuous ball over the top of the Modena defence.

Cagliari followed up their win against Crotone, with a draw against Ternana. The opening exchanges were rather sparse in terms of chances, but the Rossoblu did eventually take the lead through Marco Sau. The former Italy international was given acres of room and rightfully capitalised, volleying in from eight yards.

In the second-half Ternana upped the anti and missed a number of chances, hitting the bar once as well as having a shot cleared off the line. Cagliari thought they may have gotten away with it but in the 95th minute Martin Valjent headed in from a free-kick to give the Fere a share of the spoils.

Brescia got their first point of the season with a draw at home to Salernitana. Defender Raffaele Schiavi opened his account for the season when he headed in from a corner.

Twelve minutes into the second period, the Rondinelle got a goal back through a sweet strike from Leonardo Morosini, from just outside the box.

Morosini then doubled his tally 11 minutes from the games end, firing home from within the six yard box. But the promoted side did manage to salvage a point through Denilson Gabionetta, when he chipped the goalkeeper after breaking through the Brescia defence

Last week’s entertainers Bari couldn’t back up their positive opening day win with a another three points as they drew 0-0 away to Vicenza. It was the home side who had the best chance of the match when former Roma man Steffano Pettinari had a shot blocked on the line.

Virtus Lanciano responded to their opening day defeat to Pro Vercelli with a win against Ascoli. Both sides were pretty equal throughout the first-half but it was the Frentani who took the lead through wicked curled free-kick from Carlo Mammarella.

In the second-half Ascoli brought on AC Milan striker Andrea Petagna in the hope of getting something from the match. However, the on loan forward failed to make the difference as it was Lanciano who claimed the second goal of the match.

Striker Nicola Ferrari sealed the points when he burst to near-post to head in from a corner.

crotone novara

Crotone were clearly not mentally scared from their 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Cagliari when they beat Novara. But it was the Serie B new-boys who took the lead through a stunning 25-yard strike from Andrej Galabinov.

The Biancoazzurri did have a number of chances to increase their advantage but fluffed their lines. Crotone eventually hit back in the 88th minute through a deflected free-kick from Joseph Torromino. In stoppage time the ball was pumped into the box for Ante Budimir to head in the winner.

Livorno continued to look the team to beat when they overcame Como. Against the run of play the Lariani scored the opening goal through Alessandro Sbaffo, who scrambled the ball in after a knock down. Franncesco Fedato scored once again when he got away from his marker to head in from a delightful cross.

In the second-half Livorno claimed the win. Daniele Vantaggiato scored from the penalty spot to make it 2-1 following a foul on Armando Vajushi.

spezia pro vercelli

Spezia drew 1-1 with Pro Vercelli at the Stadio Alberto Picco to continue their average start to the season. Mario Situm opened the scoring for Spezia through a sumptuous  strike from 18 yards out.  But the Leoni did eventually get back into the game through Luca Castiglia right at the end of the opening 45.

Castiglia hit an even better shot tahn Situm from 30 yards to earn Pro Vercelli a point.
