Serie B newcomers Cesena defeated Brescia 2-0 at the Stadio Manuzzi on Saturday evening, in what was the opening game of the season.

The team that was relegated from Serie A last term found themselves two goals to the good inside six minutes thanks to goals from Lorenzo Rossetti and Antonino Ragusa.

The home side were in front inside two minutes thanks to forward Rossetti. The man on loan from Juventus was on hand to tap in from a few yards into an empty net following a low cross from the left.

Minutes later the Cavallucci Marini doubled their lead. Ragusa had a similarly easy finish as Minelli had unconvincingly parried into his path and the winger could not miss.

The away side were on top after that and Stefano Martinelli should have pulled one back for his side but the midfielder blazed high over the bar from inside the box.

In the second half Tomasz Kupisz had an effort from outside the box tipped wide by Federico Agliardi as Brescia tried to get back in the game.

After Ragusa had a header saved at one end, Simone Rosso missed the target from close range with one himself and the Leonessa could not find a goal, despite having 35 attempts on goal and lost the game 2-0.
