FIGC president Carlo Tavecchio urged Italian clubs to invest in home grown talent.

Tavecchio pointed out the vast amount of young Italians that are ignored by top clubs.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Tavecchio also replied to Cesare Prandelli saying the Italian national team does not have a bright future.

“There are 800,000 kids under the age of 17 in Italy, someone must look at them instead of always buying players in South America,” claimed Tavecchio.

Replying to Prandelli, he said: “It’s a bold claim, I cannot reply directly. We are doing what is in our power.

“We are investing around €20 million in formation centres, every single region in Italy will have one.”

Prandelli had said that Italian clubs are too powerful and there was a lack of programming, that lead to him believing the Azzurri had little future.
