Carlo Tavecchio president  has revealed the thought process ahead of choosing the venue for this evening’s UEFA Euro 2016 qualifier against Bulgaria at the Stadio Renzo Barbera in Palermo.

The 72-year-old has called on the people of Palermo to roar Antonio Conte’s squad to victory and keep the Azzurri on top of Group H, a position gained following Thursday’s 1-0 victory over Malta.

“Palermo has passion and deep love for the national team, these are the reasons that make it special for the national team to play at the Renzo Barbera,” Tavecchio told the Il Giornale di Sicilia.

The National team return to the Sicilian capital one year after the victorious match against Azerbaijan when Giorgio Chiellini scored both goals during a 2-1 victory.

“Italy has to take a decisive step to reach the finals in France. To do this you need the enthusiasm and cheer of Palermo and all the Sicilians,” he said.

“I’m sure will not miss their support, to push the Azzurri to a milestone, a milestone in the growth of the group coached by Conte.”
