Torino to second-place in Serie A, coach Giampiero Ventura claimed it was entirely deserved after their performances this season.

However, after being forced to cling on a little as the Granata were eventual reduced to nine men, the veteran tactician admitted he was confused by the decision to send off Cristian Molinaro with 30 minutes remaining.

“We are second in the league, that should make us proud, because we have done so on the pitch game after game,” Ventura told Radio Rai.

“While we still had 11 men we were the best team on the pitch.

“Then there were some decisions that were a little bizarre, an example is the ejection of Molinaro which is difficult to understand.

“With nine, of course, we lost a little bit of [the play], although we conceded very little to our opponent.

With Torino fielding 11 Italians in their starting line-up, much was made of the contribution they could have on the national team, and the 67-year-old it is a focus of their philosophy.

“We are working in that direction,” admitted Ventura.

“We have a lot of young players with good quality.

“There is still much work to do, but they all have a great desire to do their best.

“We are working for our future and that of the players. If we work well, who knows, we can also make a contribution to the national team.”

One of those is Marco Benassi, who produced a moment of magic to net the crucial goal for the Granata, and Ventura admitted it was a striker worthy of the big screen.

“He scored a goal worthy of a film,” stated Ventura.

“He has started to believe more in himself.

“Before he had anxiety to push forward, but now has increased awareness. It can happen again.”
