AC Milan’s Cristian Zapata has revealed that Sunday’s derby defeat against Inter has left a bitter taste as he felt that the Rossoneri deserved to get something from the game.

The Nerazzurri continued their recent dominance over their rivals, courtesy of Fredy Guarin’s lone strike, and Zapata believed that Milan had to get at least a point due to the way they had played.

“We’re really disappointed to have lost, especially for the way we played tonight,” Zapata told Milan Channel.

“Because we had lots of goal-scoring chances and to lose this way leaves a bitter taste.

“We should have had someone marking Guarin who scored a great goal.

“From now onwards we have to play with the same mentality that we showed tonight.

“We have to keep on working. I think that the match tonight would have been very different had we scored early on.”

The Colombian defender then discussed the promising defensive partnership with Alessio Romagnoli.

“There is a good understanding between myself and Romagnoli,” he concluded.
