Zdenek ZemanFollowing Italy’s 1-0 Euro qualification win over Bulgaria in Palermo, former Cagliari coach and current Lugano boss Zdenek Zeman shared a brief and honest criticism of the Azzurri’s recent run of results.

A penalty kick goal from Daniele De Rossi was the difference in the match played on Sunday, where the Italians looked far more convincing than their lacklustre showing against Malta earlier in the week.

“The match played against Malta was a game that should’ve been kept away from a child’s view,” Zeman said to La Domenica Sportiva.

“In a match like that you would expect a simple 5-0 victory for Italy, instead it was only 1-0.”

The attack-minded tactician offered a far kinder evaluation of the win achieved by Antonio Conte against the Bulgarians with the same scoreline.

“Tonight [the Azzurri] imposed themselves on the match a little bit more,” he said.
