Higuain NapoliNapoli defeated Chievo 1-0 at the Stadio Bentegodi on Sunday night in Serie A, moving the Partenopei into second place.

Gonzalo Higuain scored the game’s only goal with a brilliant first-time effort mid-way through the second-half.

The Flying Donkeys should have taken the lead early on when Lucas Castro was sent through on goal but the Italian’s effort flew wide of the far post.

Travellers Napoli soon worked their way into the match, earning their first corner before Marek Hamsik had his attempt well blocked from the edge of the area.

The Slovakian soon turned provider, this time sliding Higuain in but the striker’s effort took a slight deflection and bounced off the post.

Another chance soon fell to the Argentinian after the half-hour mark, striking a fierce shot that agonisingly hit the inside of the post and flashed across the goalmouth to safety.

Napoli finished the first-half the stronger of the two sides and kept the momentum going right after the break when Allan’s powerful cross was well met by Albano Bizzarri.

Bizzarri was the man of the moment yet again, producing a fine one-handed stop to deny Lorenzo Insigne.

The deadlock was finally broken and deservedly so by Higuain. A super ball from Faouzi Ghoulam found the run of the striker who, in turn, struck a first-time shot into the roof of the net.

The 27-year-old should of got his second just a minute later, but skied his close range effort after a wonderful pass from Insigne.

Dries Mertens was the next in line to come with 15 minutes remaining, hitting an effort wide.

The loss for Chievo means they are without a win in four matches, while Napoli still have not lost in Serie A since the opening day.
