roma fiorentinaRoma beat Fiorentina 2-0 on Sunday night at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, a result which sees them go top of Serie A.

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring in the sixth minute, before Gervinho doubled Roma’s advantage in the 34th minute. Khouma Babacar added a late consolation goal in stoppage time.

After a fast start to the match it was Roma who took the lead, after a nice bit of interchange between Salah and Miralem Pjanic, Salah curled his shot past Ciprian Tatarusanu in the Fiorentina goal.

La Viola made a decent response and almost equalised through Nikola Kalinic who was played in behind the Roma defence and was one on one with Wojciech Szczesny, but he could only loop his effort over the bar.

In the 33rd minute Roma doubled their lead. Following a Fiorentina corner, I Lupi countered, Florenzi played in Gervinho who was completely unmarked, the Ivorian bared down on the Viola goal and slid his finish past Tatarusanu.

The Gigliati were now chasing the game and were dominating in terms of possession and they came close to scoring when Matias Vecino produced a magnificent effort from range which brought the best out of Szczesny.

10 minutes into the second-half, Roma almost sealed the win. The Giallorossi broke through the Fiorentina defence and Gervinho was initially denied by Tatarusanu but the ball fell to Pjanic who had an open goal to aim at, but somehow Gonzalo Rodriguez managed to clear his shot off the line.

The Viola were still dominating and in the 67th minute Federico Bernardeschi went one on one with Szczesny, but his effort was poor and straight at the Polish international.

Fiorentina were piling on the pressure and missed a great chance to score late on when Kalinic blasted over after being played in by Josip Ilicic.

Three minutes before time Salah was sent-off after he stupidly talked back to the referee after conceding a foul.

Khouma Babacar grabbed a late consolation but it was not enough to save the result.

The result leaves Roma top of Serie A and Fiorentina not far behind in third.
