Fiorentina coach Paulo Sousa feels his side have performed well under his instructions after they defeated Atalanta 3-0 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Sunday to extend their lead at the top of Serie A.

Sousa’s side were given an easy task as La Dea were reduced to 10 men just five minutes after the opening whistle before Josip Ilicic, Borja Valero, and Joan Verdu all fired in goals.

“We are doing well,” Sousa said to Mediaset following the victory.

“The boys always respond well to my instructions. They understand the right strategies, even in these matches where we did not have too much time to prepare.

“The performance was good, the boys believed in it and in the end good result came.”

Sousa continued his reflection on the surprising form of his team and where improvements might be made.

“These good feelings motivate us,” he added.

“It’s important that people believe in us because we use that energy from the environment we are given. There is still a lot of work on the organization of defence.”
