Fiorentina are in negotiations with representatives of Facundo Roncaglia over a possible contract renewal for the Argentine defender.

The player impressed on loan at Genoa last season and the arrival of coach Paulo Sousa at the Stadio Artemio Franchi has helped him to move up the pecking order.

Speaking to Calciomercatothe player’s agent – Claudio Curti – revealed that talks have begun as the parties are looking to agree a deal.

“I really did not expect such a resounding start,” he said on Fiorentina’s early season form.

“Through Facundo I have realised that Sousa is a different kind of coach,” he added.

“This is a key factor in Roncaglia’s decision to stay at Fiorentina.

“With regard to a possible contract renewal, we are currently talking about it.”

Curti continued to express his client’s gratitude to both Genoa and Fiorentina.

“Genoa and [Gian Piero] Gasperini gave Facundo useful experience,” he stated.

“He will forever be grateful to the team for that.

“Much like he will always be grateful to Fiorentina for allowing him to come to Europe.”

The 28-year-old, whose current contract is set to expire in 2016, has started five of the Viola’s six Serie A games so far this season.
