Fiorentina are yet to make a move for New York City FC striker David Villa.

Reports over the weekend suggested that the Viola could make an ambitious move for the former Barcelona forward as the Major League Soccer season draws to a close, but those have been rubbished by the player’s agent who says there has been no contact so far.

“At the moment I have not received any calls from Fiorentina,” said Victor Onate to FirenzeViola.it.

“It is normal that many teams are interested in David Villa but so far there has been nothing concrete,” he continued.

“It isn’t easy to tell whether or not more interest will appear over the next few months.”

The transfer window opens in January 2016 for Italian clubs, and with the MLS season tending to restart in March there is the potential for a two-month loan deal for the services of Villa to be engineered.

Villa’s agent spoke more favourably towards the loan option, stating that his client is committed to the project of New York City’s football franchise.

“David has a contract until December 2017 with New York City and is completely committed to the project.”
