Saint-Etienne coach Christophe Galtier is happy with the performance his team put in against Lazio despite losing 3-2.

Les Verts had two men sent off in the match and lost despite going ahead early on, but their coach is pleased with the way they played.

“We played well, better than the result shows,” Galtier told the press following the final whistle.

“After we went two men down, the game became more complicated but the players have put in a commendable performance.”

He then mentioned the first red card which was given to Robert Beric for an alleged intended elbow on Lazio defender Mauricio.

“The referee was probably influenced by the blood that flowed down the face of the Lazio defender,” he said.

This didn’t take anything away from their quality, though, according to Galtier.

“They played well, they have great quality up front and we saw their greater experience in Europe,” he said.
