Inter edged out Roma 1-0 at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Saturday night in Serie A, seeing them leap their opponents to top spot.

Gary Medel was the man of the moment, striking a sweet shot just after the half hour mark before Miralem Pjanic was sent off late in the second half.

The Giallorossi started much the better of the two teams but chances were few and far between, with both sides registering an early attempt on goal in the opening 10 minutes.

It was Inter’s Marcelo Brozovic with the first decent chance of the match just after a quarter of an hour, collecting a short pass before firing his effort across goal which was well saved by Wojciech Szczesny.

Roma should have been ahead soon after, Edin Dzeko came so close to retrieving a rebounded effort following Samir Handanovic’s save off of Maicon’s strike.

Yet the deadlock would be broken on the half hour by the home side when Medel picked out his spot from around 20 yards out, burying the ball into the far corner.

There were little chances of note until the hour mark following half-time when Roma’s Mohamed Salah’s luck in front of goal just wouldn’t change. The Egyptian did well to break away from the Nerazzurri defence but couldn’t pop the ball past Handanovic.

Just a minute later the same man would again be thwarted at the hands of the Slovenian, hitting a rebound into the goalkeeper’s midriff.

It soon began to unravel for Rudi Garcia’s men when Miralem Pjanic, the usual saviour for Roma, deliberately committed a handball offence that saw the Bosnian gain his second yellow card of the game.

The result meant Roma’s superb winning run came to an unfortunate end in Milan as they slide to second place with Inter going top by a one-point margin.
