Following a goalless draw with Inter in last week’s Derby d’Italia, which saw Juventus fall to 14th place in the Serie A league table, Gianluigi Buffon revealed he still believes Juventus are capable of mounting a title challenge.

Despite taking a knock against Inter, Buffon seemed positive that he would be ready for Wednesday’s Champions League match against Borussia Monchengladbach.

“Any team with ambitions to win the title was hoping for a Juventus defeat at the San Siro,” the 37-year old Italy International told Tuttosport.

“They wanted us to be buried because things are easier when Juve is out.

“But it is not so, we will be in the fight for the top.

“We have already played against Roma, Napoli and Inter, all away from home, while the others have encountered few such challenges.

“Speaking of the championship now would be delusional, but if we can play with consistency, we will continue to be protagonists.”

Buffon then commented on the injury he sustained against Inter.

“I suffered a severe bruise, but I think I’ll recover in time for tomorrow’s game,” he said.

“In any case, we are lucky to have a high quality reserve goalkeeper, having [Norberto] Neto on the pitch in my place does not change anything.”
