roma udineseRoma defeated Udinese 3-1 at the Stadio Olimpico in Serie A on Wednesday evening to regain their position at the top of Serie A.

Goals from Miralem Pjanic, Maicon and Gervinho had finished the game as a contest before Cyril Thereau’s consolation goal for Stefano Colantuono’s men.

The hosts wasted no time in taking the initiative in the game and went 1-0 up after just four minutes.

Radja Nainggolan found Maicon in an advanced position on the right flank and his driven ball across the penalty area was coolly turned in by Pjanic for his fifth Serie A goal of the season.

Just six minutes later Maicon went on another raid down the right and after gliding through some abject defending the Brazilian fired past Orestis Karnezis to double the Giallorossi’s lead.

Rudi Garcia’s men did not seem to be keen to settle on their two goal lead and after thirty minutes Maicon was involved yet again, putting Alessandro Florenzi clean through on goal but the Italy international blazed a poor shot over the bar.

Udinese, for their part, were finding it almost impossible to put any pressure on the Roma goal and the first half ended with the score 2-0 to the hosts.

Roma continued their dominance after the break and added their third goal in the 63rd minute when Gervinho found space in the Zebrette penalty area and placed a low shot into the bottom left corner of Karnezis’ net.

Against the run of play the Bianconeri then pulled a goal back after 77 minutes when Rodrigo Aguirre set up Thereau to poke home inside the penalty area.

The Giallorossi out the game in a comfortable fashion to seal a 3-1 victory.

The win moves Roma back to the top of Serie A above Inter who beat Bologna 1-0 on Monday evening.
