roberto pruzzoRoberto Pruzzo has urged Roma not to re-sign former defender Mehdi Benatia from Bayern Munich.

Benatia left Roma in 2014 after only one season in the Italian capital and Pruzzo believes the manner of his departure means he should not return.

“Benatia left the club in a way I did not like,” Pruzzo told Il Corriere dello Sport.

“I hope that Roma do not re sign him as that would send the wrong message.

“Roma should not spend a lot of money on a player who could become disgruntled.

“It is true we needs defender because [Leandro] Castan is having a difficult time which I am very sorry about.

“Maybe we will use a youth player until January although I hope Castan recovers and gets back to his best soon.”

Pruzzo then went onto speak about Italy and he believes the national side are heading in the right direction.

“Italy did what they had to and qualify for Euro 2016,” Pruzzo continued.

“They did not play at their best but they got the job done.

“I think the team are growing and things look positive.

“There are some strong teams in Europe but on their day Italy can beat anyone.”
