Sampdoria won 4-1 against Hellas Verona on Sunday at lunchtime, leaving the Veronese side without a win so far this season.

Luis Muriel, Ervin Zukanovic, Roberto Soriano and Eder scored for the Doriani while substitute Artur Ionita netted a consolation goal for the Gialloblu.

The first 10 minutes were scrappy but the Gialloblu had the better of the possession. The most memorable moment was when Samp goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano tried to dribble with the ball but he ended up giving up a corner.

Muriel gave Il Doria the lead after 11 minutes after some good work by his compatriot Carlos Carbonero. The midfielder made a run and assisted Muriel, who had a shot blocked. Carbonero attempted to get the ball under control and Emil Hallfredsson tried to clear the ball away but Muriel managed to smash a shot into the net.

Hellas Verona dropped back more but Giampaolo Pazzini had a chance to equalise when his angled drive went wide at the far post. Gialloblu goalkeeper Rafael had to be alert to parry Edgar Barreto’s powerful long-range effort away.

The Doriani made it 2-0 after 28 minutes when Soriano got the loose ball on the left-wing, crossed with his right foot, and Zukanovic dived in to score at the near post with a header. Andrea Mandorlini’s team provided little threat to the Sampdoria defence and Soriano made it 3-0 just before half-time after running onto Eder’s chipped pass.

Luca Siligardi replaced Eros Pisano at half-time and the Gialloblu forward had his angled shot saved from Viviano. Minutes later the Samp goalkeeper botched another dribble up. Sampdoria made it 4-0 after 54 minutes when Muriel chipped Rafael and Eder scored with a header which also took a deflection off Jacopo Sala.

Sampdoria had some opportunities to make it 5-0 but Verona pulled it back to 4-1 in the 75th minute after Ionita headed-in a corner from the right.

The Blucerchiati go up to 14 points on the Serie A table after this win.
