Carpi coach Giuseppe Sannino says he is prepared for Carpi’s relegation scrap having endured a similar experience whilst in charge of Siena.

Sannino succeeded Fabrizio Castori as boss of the Biancorossi at the end of last month and secured the club’s first win in Serie A shortly afterwards by defeating Torino 2-1 at the Stadio Alberto Braglia.

The former Watford coach is now targeting another victory in Saturday’s match against fellow strugglers Bologna and believes the Biancorossi can avoid the drop just like his former side Siena achieved in 2011-2012.

“The game against Bologna is the ninth of 38 games, and it’s a match where both sides need the points,” Sannino told his pre-match press conference.

“They are one of the side’s who have had an unfortunate start to their season and last week against Palermo they deserved to win but lost the match.

“I will come up against three players who are special to me: [Franco] Brienza, [Mattia] Destro and [Luca] Rossettini.

“I enjoyed a wonderful experience with them at Siena, who found themselves in a similar situation to Carpi yet we managed to survive.”
