Carlo TavecchioFIGC president Carlo Tavecchio was pleased with Italy’s resounding 3-1 victory over Azerbaijan, which secured Italy’s spot at next year’s Euro 2016 in France.

After watching Eder, Stephan El Shaarawy, and Matteo Darmian all find the net, Tavecchio was full of praise for the Azzurri side.

“We started the campaign with high hopes but we were always under scrutiny,” Tavecchio told Rai Sport.

“However, Italy passed the test.

“Now the doors to Paris are open and we will play there with all of our potential.

“[Coach Antonio] Conte’s philosophy is one of sacrifice and hard work, something that all Italians emulate,” continued Tavecchio.

While Italy’s win secured their qualification for next year’s competition, their final game against Norway this Tuesday will determine the group winner when they face the Scandinavians at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
