Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio has revealed that the Biscione have not discussed a move for NYCFC midfielder Andrea Pirlo despite reports claiming otherwise.

The 36-year-old has been steadily linked with a possible return to the Nerazzurri, where he played from 1998 until 2001, in recent weeks, though Ausilio insists that the Milan side already have an abundance of quality players in his position.

Ausilio spoke to Gazzetta TV about the possibility of Pirlo joining Inter and admitted that it’s unlikely, but still confirmed that anything can happen in football.

“Pirlo has not been discussed but we must be realistic,” said the sporting director.

“He’s great player who plays in the midfield but we already have those roles filled, both in quality and quantity.

“However, a lot goes on in football and anything can happen. I realized this over the summer with Felipe Melo, as I was very pessimistic about landing him at first. But we sold Hernanes and Mateo Kovacic and the deal was done.”
