Bologna drew 2-2 with Roma at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara in Serie A on Saturday evening.

Adam Masina opened the scoring before Miralem Pjanic and Edin Dzeko gave Roma the lead, but Mattia Destro scored a late equaliser.

Surprisingly, it was the home side that had the ball in the back of the net first. Sunderland loanee Emmanuele Giaccherini thought he had put Bologna in the ahead, but the linesman flagged for a dubious offside call.

It wasn’t long before the Rossoblu did take the lead, a goal-mouth scramble saw the ball land at the feet of Adam Masina, who powered it past Wojciech Szczesny to give Bologna a shock lead.

It was nearly a two-goal advantage moments later as a shot from Mattia Destro was deflected into the path of Amadou Diawara, who couldn’t get enough purchase on his attempt and sent it straight at Szczesny. Miralem Pjanic had the best of the visitors chances from dead-ball situations, but Antonio Mirante was equal to every one of the Bosnian’s efforts in the first half.

However, the situation did change for Pjanic after the restart. Anthony Mounier brought down Alessandro Florenzi in the box, giving Pjanic the chance he wanted to finally beat Mirante, restoring parity from the penalty spot. Edin Dzeko had a fleeting opportunity in front of goal, but the wet conditions and a poor connection meant it didn’t trouble the Bologna goalkeeper.

Dzeko did eventually find the back of the net, once again from a spot-kick. Luca Rossettini was adjudged to have fouled Juan Manuel Iturbe inside the area, giving the striker the moment he wanted to give the Giallorossi the lead. Bologna had one last reprieve. Vasilis Torosidis felled Giaccherini in the box, allowing Destro to level the scores once again prompting wild celebrations against his former club.
