Carpi president Claudio Caliumi has revealed that his side may have been wrong in their decision to fire Fabrizio Castori earlier this season, but admits that he’s happy that the coach is now back at the club.

Castori, who led the Biancorossi to a Serie B title last term and was sacked from his position on September 28, has now returned as head coach following the firing of Giuseppe Sannino on Tuesday and Caliumi believes that the tactician’s presence will be a positive thing for both the fans and the team.

Caliumi spoke to TuttoMercatoWeb.com about the decision to bring Castori back to the club and thanked Sannino for his services, while also commenting on Carpi’s upcoming derby clash with Sassuolo on Sunday.

“I personally want to thank both Sannino and Sean Sogliano for what they have done at the club, but we’ve decided to go back to our origins,” said the Carpi chief.

“Sometimes you make the wrong choices. The executives feel guilty for letting go of Castori, even though they thought it was for the good of the club.

“Sometimes you’re able to find a remedy, and other times you’re not. I say this without controversy and once again want to thank Sannino and Sogliano for what they have done.

“It’s normal that the fans have always wanted Castori here, he’s always wanted to do well. You become attached to Castori not only as a coach, but as a person as well.

“The match with Sassuolo? It will be a very difficult game. Sassuolo are a very good team and we know that anything can happen in a derby.

“It will be a very difficult game for us but we are confident.”
