Sampdoria played out an entertaining 1-1 draw at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi in Serie A on Monday night.

Eder opened the scoring in the eighth minute with a composed finish but the Mussi Volanti responded well and equalised through surprise starter Roberto Inglese in the 34th minute.

After an end to end opening to the match with both teams showing attacking intent, it was Sampdoria who not only created the first chance, but scored.

Carlos Carbonero picked up the ball just outside penalty area, nutmegged his marker and produced a delightful through ball for top scorer Eder, who beat the offside trap to slide his finish past a helpless Albano Bizzarri.

Il Doria continued to dominate, but Chievo were able to respond and after a sustained period of dominance, without really threatening, the Gialloblu got back into the game through Inglese.

The Mussi Volanti countered quickly following a Sampdoria corner until Riccardo Meggiorini delivered an incisive cross to Inglese who tapped the ball past Emiliano Viviano.

Inglese was buoyed by his goal and two minutes before half-time he received the ball on the edge of the area with his back to goal; he turned deftly and launched a shot just beyond the post.

Unlike the first-half, the start of the second-half was a rather tight and scrappy affair as both teams attacking play was stifled by numerous fouls.

The first chance fell to Fabrizio Cacciatore. A free-kick was floated into the Sampdoria box and the full-back found himself unmarked and with a free header. However, the Italian somehow managed to glance his header wide.

Three minutes later la Samp responded. Luis Muriel burst through the Chievo defence, and found himself one-on-one with Bizzarri, but his effort was weak and straight at the goalkeeper.

Viviano denied Alberto Paloschi in stoppage time to save a point for Sampdoria, a result which leaves them in 9th and Chievo three points behind in 12th.
