Empoli coach Marco Giampaolo has stressed the significance of his side’s derby game against Fiorentina on Sunday and he wants a big performance from his players to repay the passion of the club’s fans.
The Azzurri make the short trip to the Stadio Artemio Franchi to face the league leaders and Giampaolo is under no illusions as to the size of the task facing them.
“Fiorentina are deservedly top of the league because they play the best football,” Giampaolo told reporters.
“We’ve been studying them and we watched their last 10 matches.
“We are aware that we are playing a strong team, but we will not make it easy for them.
“For us this is a derby and we are reminded of that by our fans.
“We want to repay the passion of the fans with a big performance.”
