The 30-year-old joined La Viola in 2013 but went out on-loan to the Turkish side during the summer with the initial length of a year, and has scored an impressive eight goals in just 11 games so far.
“My last two seasons have not been positive,” Gomez told the website of the German football federation about his time in Italy.
“I could not play to the level I was capable of, mainly due to physical problems.”
Following his transfer to Turkey, though, Gomez says he is starting to find enjoyment in the sport again thanks to an overall improvement, which has also led to him being named in the German national side once more for their upcoming international friendlies.
“Now things are better, I start to enjoy myself on the pitch and I’m happy to be back playing for Germany,” he said.
