Roma right-back Alessandro Florenzi has revealed that he’s honoured to have gained the interest of Barcelona, but insists that he’s only focused on doing well for the Lupi at the moment.

The Giallorossi will be going head to head with Barca in Spain in the Champions League on Tuesday and the 24-year-old, who has recently been linked to the Spanish giants, understands that his team will have to give their all if they hope to earn a positive result and move up in Group E.

Florenzi spoke to Marca about the group stage clash with Barcelona, as well as their interest in him, and commented on the pride that comes with wearing the captain’s armband.

“Wearing the captain’s armband? For me it would be a great source of pride, especially with two examples like Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi, who have both helped me a lot,” said the Italy international.

“The match against Barcelona? It will be a tough game, very difficult. We’ll have to do everything to stop them, we’ll have to give 120 per cent of our effort.

“Barcelona is the best team in the world and I’m not just talking about one player. They are all very strong, especially in their attack, which makes the difference.

“My future? I try to improve every year. Right now I hope to finish the seasons with more goals and assists than ever before in my career.

“The reports of Barcelona’s interest in me have filled me with honour and pride; it means that doing well and I’m on the right path.

“However, I’m only thinking of things day by day and I want to give everything I can to Roma.”
