Hellas Verona were defeated 0-2 by Bologna at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi in their Saturday afternoon Serie A encounter.

Goals from Emanuele Giaccherini and Godfred Donsah earned Roberto Donadoni his second win as the new head coach of Bologna.

It was the away side that took the lead in the opening five minutes. Adam Masina cross was hit first time by Emanuele Giaccherini in the box, who turned it past Rafael on the half-volley brilliantly. Ten minutes later, the Rossoblu were two ahead. Godfred Donsah ghosted into the box and pounced on the cross from Masina that Mattia Destro had missed, scoring against his former employers.

Daniele Gastaldello prevented his side from reducing their lead, intercepting an excellent cross from Bosko Jankovic to maintain their two goal advantage. Just before half time, it was Masina who came to the rescue of Antonio Mirante, intercepting the Samuel Souprayane pass bound for Jankovic.

Verona continued to apply pressure in the second half. Striker Giampaolo Pazzini tried an overhead kick in the area, but saw it easily parried by Mirante. Juanito had a chance when he connected with Emil Hallfredsson’s cross, but his header dropped wide.

Donsah tried to double his account with a shot from distance, but Rafael saved it having initially fumbled the ball. Saphir Taider had an opportunity late in the game, but was eased off the ball in the penalty area. Matteo Brighi could have made it a three goal finish, but missed the target from close range.

Verona continue to languish second from bottom, while Bologna have moved up to 14th level with Genoa and Udinese.
