Juventus claimed counterfeit products have cost the club close to €10 million, and are now pushing for stronger protections of their brand.

Owned by the Agnelli family, the Bianconeri are one the top 10 largest football brands in the world according to Forbes, and are valued at over €788 million; however, they claim that counterfeit jerseys, shirts, scarves, and other team merchandise originating in South East Asia have cost the club an between €7 and €10 extra million every year.

“The existing protections in terms of legal, criminal, and civil rights are not sufficient for the clubs of football,” Juventus club lawyer Fabio Tucci said at Confcommercio.

“Not only are the laws insufficient for the sale of products, but for national and international events as well.

“What is missing is legislation that will allow the clubs to seize fake products, that look similar to the originals.

“The fakes that look very similar to the originals are not only bad for the club, but are misleading to fans as well.”
