Mexes - ACAC Milan crushed Lazio 3-1 at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday night in Serie A, moving them up to sixth place in the league table.

Andrea Bertolacci opened the scoring with the easiest of finishes, converting home from all of five yards. Philippe Mexes doubled his side’s lead with his first touch of the ball just 43 seconds after the defender’s introduction before Carlos Bacca slotted the ball into an empty net late on. Ricardo Kishna pulled one back for Lazio soon after.

The Rossoneri began the better of the two teams and Giacomo Bonaventura produced the first chance of the match with a fierce effort from 20 yards out that just evaded Federico Marchetti’s crossbar.

Sinisa Mihajlovic’s side’s good start to the game was rewarded half-way through the first-half. A cross-cum-shot from Alessio Cerci was poorly dealt with by the Italian Marchetti leaving Bertolacci to tap home the rebound from five yards.

Cerci should have turned goalscorer following his part in Milan’s opener but struck the post with a well-hit effort after a superb first touch before half time.

The start of the second-half showcased a worrying moment when Milan defender Alex fell completely unconscious after a slight collision and was subsequently replaced for Mexes.

An incredible occurrence followed the substitution when the Rossoneri doubled their lead. It was the Frenchman’s first touch after just 43 seconds on the pitch who headed home with his first touch of the Serie A season.

Lazio were denied a goal to get them back in the game with 15 minutes remaining but Kishna’s effort was rightly ruled out for offside.

Any doubt for the Milanisti was killed off when Bacca was played through before rounding Marchetti to strike into an empty net.

The home side did manage to pull one back via Kishna but it wouldn’t be enough to salvage anything.

The result meant the travellers leapfrogged Lazio in the league standings.
