ashley cole chelseaNewcastle United have been boosted in their pursuit of Roma defender Ashley Cole, with the Italian club hoping to sell the player.

The former Arsenal and Chelsea man failed to make Rudi Garcia’s 21-man Champions League squad this season and is yet to make an appearance this campaign.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, the Giallorossi are looking to offload the 34-year-old in January.

Cole reportedly rejected a return to the Premier League on deadline day in the summer when he turned down a move to Newcastle.

The experienced left-back dropped down the pecking order at Roma following the arrival of Paris Saint-Germain loanee Lucas Digne in the summer.

Cole’s deal at Roma is set to expire at the end of the season but Garcia is keen to find him another club in as soon as January.

The former England international is now ready to leave the capital after accepting his time in Rome is over.
