Gianluigi Buffon – 6.5 – Cat
Made some good saves in the first-half but had absolutely nothing to do in the second-half. Taken off for Salvatore Sirigu with 20 minutes remaining.
Matteo Darmian – 6 – Careless
Lacklustre attempt to thwart Bogdan Stancu that led to the opening goal. Tried really hard to get forward and deliver balls to make amends but was either offside or controlled the ball out of play.
Andrea Barzagli – 6 – Similar
Much like Darmian, he was part of the problem for the first goal. Appeared quite sluggish and not switched on as much as his usual self would be.
Leonardo Bonucci – 6.5 – Better
Didn’t do much but it meant he gave a better performance than against Belgium. Launched balls forward instead of playing out however, keeping with his tradition.
Giorgio Chiellini – 6.5 – Run-down
Aimless long balls throughout summed up his performance. Kept showing Bogdan Stancu inside which didn’t pay off due to his trickery and tired himself out. Was beaten in the air for second goal.
Alessandro Florenzi – 7 – Energetic
Powered down the wing multiple times and whipped in balls at every chance. Will be a big asset for Azzurri next summer. Wanted to get the game going after 1-0 down but sometimes his drive to get forward cost the side possession.
Claudio Marchisio – 7.5 – Centrepiece
It was a typical performance by Marchisio. Sat deep to help the defence and played a crucial role in keeping possession. Didn’t get forward as much as would have liked and when he did he had two decent attempts. Brilliant penalty to level the scores prior to his assist. Subbed for Marco Parolo with 15 minutes to go.
Roberto Soriano – 5.5 – Ghost
Didn’t even know he was on the pitch. Ghostlike in his performance. Couldn’t handle Lucian Sanmartean when he came on and was swiftly taken off after 60 minutes.
Stephan El Shaarawy – 6 – Odd.
Slack for the majority of the game and couldn’t hold his run. Cut in way too much which became predictable. Best chance came 15 minutes from full-time when he did brilliantly to bring the ball down only for his volley to be well blocked. Subbed with ten minutes remaining.
Eder – 6.5 – Fighter
Ran well but made poor choices in the final third. Won the penalty he deserved after first-half appeal was turned down then dived a minute later. Taken off shortly after.
Graziano Pelle – 6 – Quiet.
Took Dragos Grigore’s niggling fouls to heart and made two poor challenges that summed up his first-half. Apart from missing a few headers not a great game and was taken off after 60 minutes.
Riccardo Montolivo – 6.5 – Fair
Was drawn out onto the wings more than he should have been but did create some good deliveries however, including setting up Manolo Gabbiadini. Worrying back pass nearer the end epitomised his match.
Stefano Okaka – 6.5 – Strong
Good strength that got him right up to speed in the game and caused numerous problems for the Romanian backline. Couldn’t connect with a brilliant Florenzi delivery but did it led to the goal regardless.
Manolo Gabbiadini – 7 – Pleasant
A nice showing from the midfielder. Came more close to scoring with a header in two minutes than Pelle did in 60. Went on to score five minutes later with a free header. Unfortunately hobbled off late on.
Salvatore Sirigu – 6.5 – Spectator
Did nothing but hoof the ball forward and watched the game. Saved well late on but couldn’t keep out the rebound.
Marco Parolo – N/A
Antonio Candreva – N/A
