Sampdoria have officially confirmed the sacking of coach Walter Zenga.

The 55-year-old had been under significant scrutiny in recent weeks, and Doria owner Massimo Ferrero has finally decided to dismiss Zenga due to a conflict of interests.

“Sampdoria can confirm that coach Walter Zenga has been relieved of his duties as first team coach,” read a statement on the club’s official website.

“It is a shame that his time at the club ended so early, but president Massimo Ferrero and all of the club hierarchy want to wish Walter Zenga all the best for the rest of his career.”

Following Zenga’s departure, it is more than likely that former Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Montella will take the reins at the club, after it was reported that Ferrerro was in Florence to try to resolve the complicated situation with his former club.

Sampdoria currently sit in 10th place in the Serie A table and have a total of 16 points.
