Sassuolo defender Sime Vrsaljko believes that his team have a shot at qualifying for the Champions League this season.

The Neroverdi currently sit in fifth place on the Serie A table with 19 points as they prepare for their derby clash with Carpi on Sunday and the 23-year-old insists that the club have what it takes to do extremely well this campaign, admitting that he’s very happy in Eusebio Di Francesco’s squad.

Vrsaljko spoke to Sky Sport Italia about Sassuolo’s objectives for the current season and commented on their upcoming battle with Carpi, while also touching on the attention he’s earned from big Italian clubs like Juventus and Napoli.

“I think that Sassuolo can qualify for the Champions League this season,” said the Croatian international.

“This is the team’s goal, as well as my own. I’m doing really well here, the club is in great harmony with our current set of players.

“The derby with Carpi? The last time this match occurred was 18 years ago. I know this is a historic match for us.

“We want to win. We’ve been doing very well this season, but we must go forward very carefully, playing the way our coach wants us to.

“I feel ready to be part of a great team, it’s been my goal since I was young. However, I’m only thinking of Sassuolo at the moment.

“Interest from Juventus and Napoli? It’s true, and it makes me very happy to know this. But we’ll see what happens; I live day by day.”
