The 33-year-old Cassano has made nine appearances for Vincenzo Montella’s side, since moving from relegated Parma and his limited amount of playing time is a constant source of speculation.

According to Il Secolo XIX, Atalanta are said to be in pole position to sign the former Real Madrid man, as he grows out of favor at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris with the player reportedly willing to move in order to find playing time.

Atalanta have lost striker Mauricio Pinilla to a serious injury and with Cassano not finding Sampdoria a suitable place for him, a move to Edoardo Reja’s side could be on the cards come January.

The Bari-born striker has also represented Italy on 39 occasions and he featured in the 2014 World Cup as the Azzurri failed to get out of the group.
